What is Monk Fruit?
- Monk fruit is a small round melon native to the remote mountainous regions of Southern China and Northern Thailand where it has been used for centuries and is very well known under the name Luo Han Guo. Traditional Chinese doctors have been prescribing it as a treatment for diabetes, digestion and obesity for centuries and it’s only now it’s sweetening properties are being used in beverages and food.
- Monk fruit sweetener is created by removing the seeds and skin of the fruit, and fermenting the fruit to extract a specific part called "mogrosides" that contains no sugar but is up to 200 times sweeter than sugar. We have naturally extracted this and left all the calories behind giving you something that tastes just like sugar but with 96% less calories! Monk Fruit extract has been certified by Food Standards Australia New Zealand (FSANZ) for use in both food and beverages.
- Most people say that monk fruit extract tastes BETTER than sugar. People generally report that it tastes very light and pleasant, with a "fruity" rounded after-taste. It is because of this taste that has given a major boost in efforts to find an ideal sugar substitute.
- Monk fruit is now taking it's place as a solution to the naturally sweetened market with major brands recognising it's sweetening properties. Chobani, Yoplait, Starbucks, Nestle and many more have recently launched products sweetened with Monk Fruit!
