WHAT DOES NORBU TASTE LIKE?

IS NORBU FRUCTOSE FREE?

Absolutely! Norbu contains ZERO fructose! The monk fruit contains about 25-38% of various carbohydrates, mainly fructose and glucose. However, Norbu is fructose free even though it is derived from monk fruit because only the sweet component called mogrosides are extracted from the fruit. Everything else including the fructose is left behind.

HOW IS MONK FRUIT EXTRACTED?

Monk fruit sweetener is created by removing the seeds and skin of the fruit, and fermenting the fruit to extract a specific part called “mogrosides” that contains no sugar but is up to 200 times sweeter than sugar. We have naturally extracted this and left all the calories behind giving you something that tastes just like sugar but with 96% less calories!

HOW DOES MONK FRUIT COMPARE WITH STEVIA?

Monk fruit and stevia are actually very very similar when used as a sweetener as both extract the key sweet part from the plant leaving the rest of the plant behind. Monk fruit comes from a fruit and Stevia comes from a leaf! The major difference is Taste. Some people just don’t like the taste of stevia due to the aftertastes. Monk fruit however does not have the aftertaste.

HOW DOES NORBU COMAPRE WITH XYLITOL?

Xylitol is also commonly used sugar substitute. It is an alcohol sugar, also known as a poly-alcohol. Although as sweet as sugar it has about half the calories.

The main disadvantage of xylitol as a sugar alternative is that it still has a significant amount of calories and it ranks seven on the glycemic index so has a higher impact on the blood sugar than Norbu does.

This is also in light of the fact that there is another sugar alcohol in the same family that has only 0.2 calories per gram AND is zero on the glycemic index. Erythritol is more commonly used in low calorie, sugar replacements for these reasons alone

HOW DOES NORBU COMPARE WITH AGAVE?

Agave is becoming far more common now as a sweetener in foods and is a syrup similar to Maple Syrup and is very high in sugars, calories and Fructose! Like other syrups, agave has around 74 per fructose and so can provide issues with peoples digestion and can cause bloating. One Tablespoon of agave syrup supplies around 265kJ – over 25X more than Norbu!

HOW DOES NORBU COMPARE WITH RICE MALT SYRUP?

Another common “healthy” sweetener being used at the moment is Rice Malt Syrup. The low down however is that although rice malt syrup is low in Fructose, is very high in calories! It also has an extremely high Glycaemic Index (GI) of 98, according to the Sydney Uni Testing Lab. This is almost the same as in pure glucose! One tablespoon (10g) supplies 137 kJ, over 10X that of Norbu!
